On Saturday, October 18th, in collaboration with Nishi Ward Office, we held the "Exciting SDGs Experience Event! - Learning about various WA (harmony, circle, ring) through SDGs experiences" on the tidal flats near the Kumamoto City Western Purification Center.
We were blessed with fine weather, which we had been worried about, and we were able to pick up trash on the tidal flats and realize that "with just one idea, trash is no longer trash."
In the hope that people would feel a sense of relief, we made some handmade goods in conjunction with picking up trash.
(I didn't know what the trash situation would be, so I prepared some parts just in case.)
At first glance, the tidal flats seemed to be free of trash, but the more we dug, the more we found large plastic bags.
There's even a large mesh-like sheet and tires that I don't know what they're made of...!!
I realized that litter and illegally dumped items were washing up and filling up the tidal flats, polluting the habitat of bivalves such as clams.
All participants had fun cleaning up while getting covered in mud.
Each participant created their own unique handmade goods, and I think everyone enjoyed them.
Finally, we presented the participants with thank-you gifts and brought the highly successful SDGs experience event to a close.
There may be some shortcomings, but I hope you enjoyed it even a little.
Please rest assured that we will take full responsibility for the recyclable materials that you entrust to us and the waste that we collect during cleaning.
I look forward to working with you again if there is another opportunity like this.
We would like to thank everyone who participated, Nishi Ward Office and Western Purification Center for their cooperation,
Thank you very much.
